Comfort

I've always been glad that I'm a reader and a lover of story but I think it's during the tough times, I'm even more grateful. When I'm stressed, when I'm sick, when I'm sad, I know that I can take myself away from it all with a good story.

I've been doing a bit of comfort reading lately, old favourites like Diana Wynne Jones and Lois McMaster Bujold and Jennifer Crusie and Guy Gavriel Kay. Loretta Chase and Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. L.M Montgomery. Jane Austen. Stories to make me happy (and yes, there's been a fair bit of rom com watching and Big Bang Theory and Vicar of Dibley but TV and movies are just another form of story really) and give me a break. When I'm wide awake at 4am, I can read myself back to sleep (or audiobook myself back to sleep).

So I'm thankful for stories and my favourite authors who make tough times easier. Who are some of your favourite comfort reads?

Chiming in to say I hope your stress levels ease soon. I know how that feels. I tend to go back and reread favorites for comfort. Linda Howard is one I'll return to. Also Janet Evanovich. I stopped reading her series a long time ago and recently decided to start it over and catch up. Good for laughs. :)

Evanovich is always good for a giggle! And I love Heyer too. Might have to pull out the Grand Sophy next.

The older I am the more I notice how much I don't re-read. Having said that, reading for me now encompasses discovering new and different authors and genres. So comfort reading for me would be going to the yet-unread books by favourites.

I tend to watch and re-watch tv &/or movies. Can't imagine why any show by Joss Whedon ;) and over past couple of weeks I've indulged myself in ALL of Supernatural - from beginning to the start of season 6.....

Action movies in the vein of Mr & Mrs Smith, Underworld, The Fifth Element as well as Centre Stage, Sweet Home Alabama & 50 First Dates get airtime when I'm hiding from the world.

Love a good multi series marathon! I need to do a buffy or farscape re-visiting soon! Works well with spinning : )
